By Darren DeMatas
Still trying to figure out what to sell online?
Stepping into the uncharted world of selling online can get your anxiety pumping. You want to hit a home run with your first idea, but you don’t want to chase rainbows, either.
I get it.
You want to sell physical products online and make a profit. And to get there you, need data that you can trust and a smart ecommerce business model.
While there are hundreds of potential niches and millions of products to sell online, the foundation of your success comes down spotting profitable opportunities and diligently pursuing them.
Don’t let the fear of failure prevent you from the research process.
The good news is, an opportunity is always around and you can learn the right steps here for free.
Global B2C Ecommerce Sales
Keep in mind the important lesson: you need a process for choosing what to sell online. Don’t randomly pick something based on a hunch.

How To Find Trending Products

The general process I like to follow is:
  1. Research ideas in Google Trends
  2. Find market data to see if the industry sales is growing
  3. Narrow down to product categories using Google search volume
  4. Research blogs and influencers to find passion topics
  5. Get product sales data in JungleScout
Scope out your competitors, suppliers and manufacturers before spending any money. Look at their prices and inventory levels from day to day to see if they are successful.
JungleScout automatically does this. And I highly recommend it for anyone selling online of doing Amazon affiliate marketing.
When selecting at products, keep a tight focus and look for the sweet spot. But make sure you have a good mix of low, medium and high price points. Depending on your niche, you might need to have a “loss leader” to bring in customers then upsell them later.

Trending Product Niches For 2018

Anti Cellulite Vacuum

Average Price:

$46

Monthly Search Volume:

10

I thought about putting this into the “evergreen” product niche category, but there’s a new product in this space that is quickly picking up steam.

The Anti Cellulite Vacuum is a high ticket item that you can use as the perfect upsell to a sample size cellulite cream.
If I wasn’t so busy with my ecommerce brand, I’d jump on this. But I have enough on my plate. If you wanted to jump on this trend right now, I would:
  1. Find an Anti-Cellulite cream or Patch for $1 on Ali Express.
  2. Set up A Facebook Ad campaign and offer the product for free. (Customer pays shipping)
  3. Get their email before you ask for payment.
  4. After they purchase show them a one-click upsell to a higher priced cream.
  5. Run email marketing automation to educate them about weight loss.
  6. Hit them with a coupon code for an Anti Cellulite Vaccum
You could even test using the Vaccum as the one-click upsell.

Bluetooth Speakers

Average Price:

$33

Average Price:

132000

Bluetooth speakers were on my list two years ago, and it’s still hot. Case in point: Gronkball.
gronk ball
I’m sure you’ve seen these featured in your local mall.
Gronkball is the perfect example of an entrepreneur taking advantage of a rapidly growing market and reaching a passionate audience.
Look at the massive spike this past month. This is something you need to do right now if you want to make some cash. There’s not that many sellers on Amazon. You don’t even need the “Gronkball” but something similar.
The wireless speaker industry is set to grow 10% annually to $31.80 Billion USD by 2023.

Vape / E-Cigarettes

Average Price:

$23

Monthly Search Volume:

209,000

Like or not, Vaping (of all kinds) is a massive trend. I expect it to boom even further once more states legalize marijuana. There is certainly a lifestyle element and community that you can leverage to establish a brand in this rapidly growing niche.
vape ecigerrate
Make no beans about it. The vaping and e-cigs industry is expected to grow to $61B by 2025.  This niche has everything you want. Products at low, medium and high price points. Upsell and cross-sell opportunities, search volume and trending up. If you can navigate this heavily regulated industry, you could succeed in this niche.

Drones and Accessories

Average Price:

$180

Average Price:

170,000

I love the high price point of drones. Mix in all the accessories and a passionate community and it has all the makings of a great niche. There’s an educational element you can provide to differentiate your store vs others.
Drone
Drones is a $5B industry and more units are expected to take off.
The other thing I like about drones is that there are different levels of drone users. You can maximize customer lifetime value by selling entry-level products, accessories and then upsell higher end products to more experienced users.
Drones

Subscription Boxes

Average Price:

$25

Monthly Search Volume:

92,000

Nothing says customer lifetime value better than monthly recurring billing. That’s exactly what you get when you sell a subscription box. You keep billing them until they cancel.

The thing is that people are OBSESSED with subscription boxes. Customers are excited to get these things each month. There are tons of bloggers and influencers that cover subscription-based products.
The subscription box industry is growing 200% annually. And you can create a subscription box around any type of passion. Coffee, makeup, personal care, you name it industries are waiting to get disrupted here. Look how Dollar Shave Club changed the shaving industry.
Subscription Boxes

Online Food Delivery

Average Price:

$55

Monthly Search Volume:

1500

This growing industry is expected to reach $30B in sales by 2025.
When looking at this post, you should be thinking, “How can I combine this product with passionate crowds?” And formulate your own idea.
online food delivery
You could easily combine this idea with subscription boxes and hit two growing markets at once.
Companies like Blue Apron and Home Chef take the stress out of dinner. This subscription product answers “What are we doing for dinner” automatically.
The fact that Amazon is going big into this space should be a sign for every entrepreneur.

Denim

Average Price:

$22

Monthly Search Volume:

48,000

Denim is back in style! At least that is what Google is telling me.
I’m trying to tell my wife its back in style, but she won’t listen.
Denim
I’m no fashion expert.
But seriously. Thousands of people are buying denim clothes for themselves or children each on Amazon every day. It’s also worth noting that industry experts predict denim will outpace leggings for Millenials.
If you have an eye for photography, you can absolutely crush it on Instagram with this.

LED Lighting

Average Price:

$28

Monthly Search Volume:

21,000

Overall, LED lighting is a growing trend. But I’d focus on a subset like outdoor lighting or kitchens.  You won’t make any money selling regular LED light bulbs.
My neighbor just spent $100K to update his backyard. Including a kitchen and a ton of remote control LED lights.
He’s not the only one spending this kinda money. The LED market is expected to grow 13% annually and reach $55B by 2022.
You can create a fantastic content site around outdoor living spaces and sell lighting and related products.

Shapewear

Average Price:

$32

Monthly Search Volume:

21,000

Shapewear is tight fitting underwear designed to control and shape your body. Shapewear is a perfect example of a niche starting point. It’s not as big as women’s fashion or underwear, but is expected to grow to roughly $6M by 2022.
Shapewear
Spanx is an amazing example of the type of ecommerce brand you should strive to make. They’ve become a market leader in Shapewear.
You’ll always find a lot of influencers and bloggers in this fashion industry.

Matcha Powder/Tea

Average Price:

$33

Monthly Search Volume:

50,000

People will always be interested in easy weight loss. Nothing is easier than brewing a cup of tea.
If you’re from Japan, you probably need no explanation here. But for whatever reason, matcha tea has been playing catch-up to green tea’s popularity for the last decade. It comes from the same plant as green tea, but is less processed and therefore contains significantly more health benefits.
Every year more and more consumers are becoming aware of matcha health benefits. Matcha is a $300M market and expected to grow 8% each year.
The product above is estimated to be selling 18K per month on Amazon.

Magnetic Phone Accessories

Average Price:

$10

Monthly Search Volume

1500

A lot of people made money dropshipping magnetic phone chargers at the end of 2016. It is difficult to build a brand around fads, but I think this one has a little more legs than just phone chargers.
Magnetic Phone Charger
Overall, the smartphone accessories market is expected to grow to $108B by 2022. But it is HIGHLY fragmented. If you didn’t want to worry about finding the exact right accessory to sell, you could copy Android Central and take the Amazon affiliate route.

Evergreen Product Niches

Hair Removal

Average Price:

$20

Monthly Search Volume:

190,000

The hair removal market is expected to grow 9% annually and reach $1.3B by 2022. But again, hair removal is too broad. You need to find a sub niche in this category.
Flawless Women's Painless Hair Remover
Remember, if you are struggling to come up with a niche. Just use this formula: product category for your target market.
Ex. Hair removal for the female hardcore athlete.
You can sell multiple product niches to that person.
Hair Removal

Minimalist Watches

Average Price:

$39

Monthly Search Volume:

3,200

Watches will always be a good niche. It steadily grows in sales (8%) and search volume each year. Watch lovers typically own multiple ones.
Jay-Z reportedly owns hundreds of them. A former ecommerce client of mine had a dozen.
The trick is to find an area within this niche that is untapped and give them something new to add to their collection.
Minimalist watches are becoming more popular as minimalism, in general, picks up steam.
Minimalist Watches

Dog Bowls

Average Price:

$9

Monthly Search Volume:

5,800

I don’t have to tell you, but the pet industry is massive. $70B. Some people love their pets more than their kids.
This bowl is generating $350K per month. Has over 1400 reviews, but only 4 stars. Why not 4.5 or 5? Maybe you can improve it.
Dog Bowl

You can sell foldable dog bowls or customizable cat bowls. Doesn’t matter. What does matter is you pick a tight focus area and find a unique angle.
People buying dog bowls will be interested in dog health and nutrition. Making content an attractive play, once you know you have a product people will buy.

Detox Tea / Juice

Average Price:

$17

Monthly Search Volume:

23,000

There are several different types of teas and juice that have been found to have detox benefits. Create a brand around these different ones or start with just 1 and expand from there.

The overall juice detox market is $3.4 billion – surely there’s a good niche to be had there. You can go organic is always a good idea. You can add B12 and target Vegans as well.
Detox Tea

Paleo Bars / Powder

Average Price:

$18

Monthly Search Volume:

4,100

The Paleo diet is nothing new but there’s no doubt that it’s as in right now as Ryan Gosling in a rom-com. The diet focuses around replicating the diet of our early ancestors which means no dairy, grains or processed foods.

These paleo enthusiasts are hardcore about their diet and their exercise routines. As such, they feel the need to put high quality foods into their system after workouts. Paleo enthusiasts have friends – meaning, if you sell to one, you’ve sold to many!

Natural Hair

Average Price:

$32

Monthly Search Volume:

26,000

More and more people are turning to a natural lifestyle. This space is a bit crowded, but competition is a sign of a healthy market.
Products like hydration oil, shampoo and conditioners are rising in the black consumer market. The one below has over 7,000 reviews.
With celebrities like Alicia Keys embracing the natural hair look, the trend will continue to grow. African-American spending on relaxers decreased by 30% from 2011 and 2016 in favor of natural hair products or none at all.
There’s also a lot of bloggers and IG users that share hair styling videos. Making it a great niche to build a community around.
The natural oil below sells 21K per month on Amazon.

Fake Eyelashes

Average Price:

$10

Monthly Search Volume:

10,000

Another consumable product that I like. Consumable products = subscription. Not only that, this industry is expected to grow 4% annually to $1.3B by 2023.
So don’t let the Google trend fool you.
Anything in the fashion ecommerce industry is a good niche. The key is marketing or a unique product angle. Both are better.
Amazon sells $70K per month of the magnetic eyelashes above.
Fake Eyelashes

Baby Clothes

Average Price:

$15

Search Volume:

51,000

Baby clothes will always be in need. But this is such a broad category. Id suggest going after something within this category like clothes for preemies.
The downside of this industry is its only growing at 1%. The plus side is there’s millions of mommy bloggers ready to promote your product for a small fee.
This cute footie generates $35K in monthly sales on Amazon.

Men’s Engagement Rings

Average Price:

$12

Monthly Search Volume:

6700

This product slants towards the gay market. Women can propose to men, too –  right?
Anyways, I like this niche. The target audience is crystal clear. Gay men in a serious relationship. The downside here is you can only sell an engagement ring to a person once (in theory ðŸ™‚ )
Mens Rings
You’d have to get creative to maximize customer lifetime value. I think the perfect business model here is to add gay fashion affiliate blog to this ecommerce product category. Once you find a product you are making good affiliate sales on, consider adding it as a category.
Same sex marriage will only increase in America…or will it? Seems like people want it, but the current administration doesn’t seem to embrace it too much.
Mens Engagement Rings

Cruelty-Free Makeup

Average Price:

$16

Monthly Search Volume:

9500

If there’s a passion niche, it is vegans. They are super passionate about the planet and their body.
Cruelty Free Perfume
For a vegan, natural products are not enough. It has to be vegan. Cruelty-free brands are taking a stand to call out companies that test on animals.
The best part is the market is expected to grow 6% in the coming years.

Product Niches On The Decline

Fidget Spinners

Average Price:

$11

Monthly Search Volume:

99,000

If you didn’t cash in on this in 2016 or 2017, you probably missed the boat. At one point fidget spinners occupied all 20 spots of the top 20 toys on Amazon.
Yes they are still popular, but the market is pretty saturated. The price point is so low that I’d avoid entering this market at this time. If you want to buy Fidget Spinners in bulk, you’ll have no problem. There are plenty of people looking to offload their supply.
Fidget Spinners

Pocket Squares

Average Price:

$13

Monthly Search Volume:

240,000

Wearing a pocket square can completely enhance the look of a suit or sports jacket. For whatever reason, for the past 30 years, people seemed to forget this winning formula. A quick trend search on Google shows that a slight pocket square resurgence
There are several different ways to approach this. Based on the quality of fabric? Price point? Or coolest / funkiest designs? Accessories make for a great business given their attractive margins.
Pocket Squares

Art Supplies

Average Price:

$12

Monthly Search Volume:

57,000

Sad to say, but demand for art supplies are on the decline. But there are still a ton of people searching for it.
Have you ever tried to paint something? Then you’ll notice that going to an art store and buying paint supplies, for a beginner, is extremely confusing. There could be an interesting opportunity to sell pre-packaged paint sets for varying skill-levels of painters.
Art Supplies

Party Supplies

Average Price:

$18

Monthly Search Volume:

68,0000

Parents spend a LOT of money on their kids’ birthday parties. And decorating is simply a pain in the butt.
We like the concept of creating pre-packaged birthday decorations based on the age and gender of your child.
My gut tells me there’s some good margin in this 100pc plastic toy set for $20.
Something that takes the thinking out of the busy schedules of parents. And if a parent is happy with what they received for their child’s first birthday, guess who they’re going to order from next year?
Party Supplies

Outdoor Speakers

Average Price:

$82

Average Price:

19,000

The love of the outdoors seems to be on the decline according to Google trends. With 20K people searching monthly for this product, the demand is something you shouldn’t ignore. This has created an opening for outdoor electronic companies to create durable and portable products that are convenient for specific activities. Maybe a speaker for when you’re fishing or riding in a golf cart?
This is a product that can be manufactured in China with a little technical expertise. For some inspiration, read up on how GoPro got its start.

Download The Free Report and Get More Niches and More Data

My initial ecommerce niche report was downloaded over 10K times. The new one is even better. There’s more 40+ niches and I’ve included more relevant data points:
  • SEO Difficulty
  • Amazon Monthly Sales
  • Amazon Opportunity Score
  • Amazon Competition
You can dropship the products to test them. Just consider the delivery time and the impact it has on customer experience. Customers might not want to wait 3 weeks. If they are unhappy about it, its unlikely they will buy again. This can cut into your profits, if you used a loss leader strategy. If you get traction you might want to source a better manufacturer.
If you are selling on Amazon, Etsy or Ebay – you’ll want to make sure you have your own website. It costs a lot to acquire customers. You need to be able to sell them in the future.
If the idea of managing inventory gives you the heebie-jeebies, you might want to look at selling digital products.
I strongly encourage you to do your own research. Use these ideas as a jumping off point. You can easily drill down to specific SKUs in JungleScount. Then combine the product niche with a passionate target audience to create your own brand.
Welcome to the world of online retail!
